L1-Educational Studies in Language and Literature is an Open Access journal and no author or reader fees are charged.  For more information, please see our Open Access statement.  L1-Educational Studies in Language and Literature runs a single Open Issue each year, and accepted articles are published throughout the year.  In addition, we publish occasional Special Issues on a focused theme.

L1-Educational Studies in Language and Literature (L1-ESLL) publishes high quality research on learning and teaching in the domains of L1 language and of literature.  The scope of the journal includes research on teaching, learning, and assessment of the L1 language; oracy, literacy - reading and writing, linguistics, and literature instruction (including digital media) within schools, curricula, and communities. L1 education contexts can range from kindergarten to institutions serving vocational and tertiary education. Manuscripts may consider the processes of teaching and learning as well as their frame conditions (e.g., linguistic diversity in schools, orthographic systems, literacy practices outside the school). However, they must focus on educational issues. We do not, however, publish research on the teaching and learning of foreign languages, nor linguistic analyses or literary studies which have no bearing on education.

Before submitting a paper, please consult the 'For Authors' information and ensure that your paper fits the scope of the journal. Please read carefully the Author Guidelines and the journal's L1 Publication Ethics Statement.  When registering as a reviewer, please select keywords specifying your expertise from the Reviewer Keywords list.
